Access Control Systems process for installing an electric automatic gate entry system will be professional, non invasive, and generally take no more than two weeks.

Our process includes the following steps:

Design Consultation

  • ACS Gate ShapesWe discuss your specific needs and recommend a matching system to meet them. Each gate system is customizable depending on design requirements, gate system use, and access control requirements.
  • We present you with a preliminary estimate with state of the art electronics.
  • After project approval, we can take your design, your architects design, or create a design for your approval from , or accept your drawing.
  • We can produce original and custom designs.
  • We can take care of the permitting process (if required in your area) or recommend someone to make the drawings and submit for the permit.
  • We fabricate your design in our own shop.
  • Our installation crews install your gate and electronics, taking care to keep the site clean and tidy.
  • Our electricians wire everything up to electrical code and train you how to use your new system.
  • Our service department takes care of your gate system during your two year residential warranty.
  • We keep your gate running!!!

Material Selection

Material: For an electric gate, pedestrian gate, or fencing project, the material selection process is a critical part of the design. Ornamental iron, if cared for properly, will generally last longer than wood exposed to the weather. For driveway gates, even if wood is selected for the aesthetics, Access Control Systems will recommend a structural frame made of steel that the wood can be fastened to or used as cladding. This provides for longevity and removes the stress from wood joints if no steel were present. Additionally, since the hinges used are steel, they can be welded to the steel frame of the gate.

gate-progress Finish: One must consider the finish that will be applied to the material. For steel, it can be painted using an enamel paint over a base primer or powder coated. Another very popular style is allowing the steel to naturally rust which gives a rustic look. We use a very thick tubular steel such that the rusting process won’t degrade the structural integrity of the gate. Corten, the brand name for A588 steel, is another steel material that exhibits rusting up to a point, but won’t degrade further. This material is used structurally on bridges sometimes and can also be used on gates, although it is far more costly than using mild steel.

Powder coating considerations: Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a “skin” (Wikipedia). Powder coating is generally thought to last much longer than a paint job with an enamel solvent-based paint because it has excellent durability and resistance to corrosion and weather damage.
For marine environments, that is those within 13 miles of the coastline, unwanted rust is a major factor. Two additional processing steps are recommended to keep rusting at bay. A Flame Spray Metal Alloy selection (85-15 Zinc Aluminum) is first applied (similar to galvanizing) to the steel, followed by an Epoxy/Epoxy Hybrid ASR primer. The top powder coat finish is finally applied on top of that.

Advantages of powder coating over conventional liquid paint coatings (Wikipedia):

1. Powder coatings emit zero or near zero volatile organic compounds (VOC). This is a far greener solution.
2. Powder coatings can produce much thicker coatings
3. Powder coating overspray can be recycled to achieve nearly 100% use of the coating.
4. Powder coating production lines produce less hazardous waste than conventional liquid coatings.
5. A wide range of specialty effects is easily accomplished which would be impossible to achieve with other coating processes.

Installing Your  Driveway Gate or Ornamental Fence

Our installation for an automatic gate, access control security system, wrought iron fences or deer fence happens with you understanding every step as it happens. After a contract has been signed between you and our company outlining the scope of the project, we do the following:

  1. Our office contacts you regarding a desirable start date and to advise you of our schedule.
  2. During this time, a gate design is selected and signed off on by you.
  3. We stay in contact to inform you of scheduling and design considerations.
  4. A site layout is performed prior to breaking ground which you can participate in.
  5. Our polite and professional crews start the project.
  6. Any hurdles that may arise during the installation are gone over with you before any decision is made.
  7. Our crew finishes the groundwork and one of our technicians follows with wiring and testing.

Training and Turnover of Your System to You

The last step in the process involves what we call a “Customer Turnover”. During the turnover, our technician meets with you and goes over these important things:

  • keys Shows you the operation of all electronic devices
  • Explains the working of the automatic gate system
  • Programs remotes and any codes for keypads or telephone intercom systems
  • Tests the operation of all devices with you present and explains how to program
  • Demonstrates the functionality of safety devices such as Knox Emergency Fire switch or Click2Enter
  • Shows you how to manually open the gate in the event of power failure or non-operational equipment
  • Signs a copy of the customer turnover sheet along with you proving that the gate is in good working order
  • Turn over keys and all paperwork such as product manuals
